Whether gearing up for the SAT or learning to read, it helps to have great tutors who know the tricks and the fundamentals. We are a small firm that offers inspiring, experienced private tutors in New York City. Each Central Park Tutor has extensive teaching experience, a Master's degree in his or her field from a leading institution, and relates well to kids. We're here to help students of all ages and levels achieve great success. We've done it, and we know our students can do it too! That's why we have been recommended by parents and students from New York City's top schools, including Riverdale, Spence, Horace Mann, Ramaz, Loyola, Poly Prep, Brooklyn Friends, and many more. In the words of one Spence mom, her tutor was "Intelligent, responsible, and extremely well-versed in the subject matter...My daughter thoroughly enjoyed working with her tutor...and she scored a perfect 800 on her SAT II!" Who are we? Our founder Susana Kraglievich began in the classroom as a high-school humanities teacher. However, when she began working privately with a fourth-grade learning-disabled student, Susana was a quick convert to private tutoring. "The opportunity to patiently listen to my student explain his difficulties and then offer workable solutions on the spot simply isn't possible in the classroom." Susana gradually shifted to working primarily as a private tutor, and her success with students again and again in helping them overcome learning difficulties quickly inspired her. "Kids love tutoring," she says. "They want to learn, and they want to keep up. I found that being with my students reduced their anxiety about school to the point that reading became fun again, which is why we're all here as teachers in the first place." She soon joined up with Michael Wallach, who had directed the Cornell University Education Department Tutoring program, for which he had won the "Innovation In Public Service Award" from New York State. Michael had also spent years working as a teenage dialogue coordinator for the non-profit Seeds of Peace. When the brilliant youth he had worked with from throughout the world asked for his help in applying to American universities, how could he turn them down? Mike helped these students attain entrance and scholarships to Georgetown, MIT, Columbia, Bowdoin and a host of other schools. He jumped at the opportunity to put his skills to work with students here in New York and Central Park Tutors was born. "So many students want to do well, and have big ambitions, but they don't know how to portray themselves to schools, or they are so confused about subject material they find it hard to study for tests. Whenever my students ace their SAT's, I feel like I scored an 800 myself. It's very rewarding." We believe deeply that every student, given the right tutor, can surpass their expectations in school and on standard tests. We even believe they can enjoy learning. We've seen it again and again.
